It is characterised by the destruction of the renal parenchyma and the presence of multinucleated giant cells and lipid-laden macrophages, inflammatory infiltration and intensive renal fibrosis. Due to the fact that there are only few cases in the literature which describe the disease in children and since pathomechanism of XPN is poorly understood, this article aims to review and illustrate the clinical, radiological, surgical and pathological characteristics of XPN in children.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Teaching Points<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n\u2022 XPN can present different clinical manifestations.<br \/>\n\u2022 CT is the mainstay of diagnostic imaging in XPN.<br \/>\n\u2022 Focal type of XPN should be included in the differential diagnosis of children with a renal mass.<br \/>\n\u2022 There are no clear guidelines on the management of XPN.<br \/>\n\u2022 Conservative and surgical treatments should be considered for each individual case.<br \/>\n\u2022 Histopathological examination confirms the diagnosis and excludes other benign and malign diseases.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Article<\/strong><\/span>: <a href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.1007\/s13244-018-0631-4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Xantogranulomatous pyeloneprhritis in children<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Authors<\/strong><\/span>: Cinta Sang\u00fcesa Nebot, Sara Pic\u00f3 Aliaga, Agust\u00edn Serrano Durb\u00e1, Mar\u00eda Jos\u00e9 Roca<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis (XPN) is an unusual and severe form of chronic inflammatory lesion of the kidney.
