{"id":37,"date":"2017-07-18T13:46:21","date_gmt":"2017-07-18T12:46:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/journals.myesr.org\/insights-imaging\/2017\/07\/18\/overviewliversegmentation\/"},"modified":"2017-07-18T13:46:21","modified_gmt":"2017-07-18T12:46:21","slug":"overviewliversegmentation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/journals.myesr.org\/insights-imaging\/highlights\/overviewliversegmentation\/","title":{"rendered":"An overview of liver segmentation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The authors of this article aim to deliver to radiologists and other healthcare professionals an accessible overview of liver segmentation to assess the liver volume.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Teaching points:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Liver volume is assessed via organ segmentation on CT and MRI examinations.<\/li>\n<li>Liver segmentation is used for volume assessment prior to major hepatic procedures.<\/li>\n<li>Segmentation approaches may be categorised according to the amount of user input involved.<\/li>\n<li>Emerging applications include surgical planning and integration with MRI-based biomarkers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Abstract: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Liver volumetry has emerged as an important tool in clinical practice. Liver volume is assessed primarily via organ segmentation of computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) images.
