{"id":1113,"date":"2024-01-24T09:19:50","date_gmt":"2024-01-24T09:19:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/journals.myesr.org\/eur-radiol\/2024\/01\/24\/meet-european-radiology-review-fellows-for-2024\/"},"modified":"2025-09-19T10:41:00","modified_gmt":"2025-09-19T09:41:00","slug":"meet-european-radiology-review-fellows-for-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/journals.myesr.org\/eur-radiol\/highlights\/meet-european-radiology-review-fellows-for-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"Meet the European Radiology Review Fellows for 2024!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It is an honor for the <em>European Radiology<\/em> Editorial Team to introduce the <strong>new class of Review Fellows<\/strong> who will join us at the <strong>ECR 2024<\/strong> and begin their Fellowship under the mentorship of our esteemed Deputy Editors.<\/p>\n<p>Over the next year, our Review Fellows will take part in handling manuscripts, analyzing scientific papers, and learning how to make editorial decisions under the guidance of supervising Editors.<\/p>\n<p>Learn more about them below:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5342 alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/journals.myesr.org\/eur-radiol\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/09\/Ammirabile-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"238\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Angela Ammirabile<\/strong> is a radiologist and a PhD student at Humanitas University, Milan. Her main interest is in abdominal radiology, specifically liver imaging. She was further endorsed by the ESOR BRACCO Fellowship 2023 which took place at Erasmus MC, Rotterdam. Her PhD work is primarily centered on integrating artificial intelligence, particularly radiomics, into clinical practice.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5344 alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/journals.myesr.org\/eur-radiol\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/09\/Cowen-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"242\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Jake Cowen<\/strong> is a radiology registrar at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust, UK. He has a keen interest in head and neck radiology, neuroradiology, and collaborative research. Current research themes include optimizing ultrasound assessment of suspected thyroid cancer and the relationship of internal auditory canal vascular loops with audiovestibular symptoms.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5345 alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/journals.myesr.org\/eur-radiol\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/09\/Festas-150x150.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"239\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Georgios Festas <\/strong>is currently working as a senior radiology resident at the 2nd Radiology Department at Attikon University Hospital, Athens. He is also a Military Medical Doctor serving in the Hellenic Navy. He got his medical degree from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and his Baccalaureate from Military Academy of Combat Support Officers in Thessaloniki, Greece. He is interested in general radiology, endovascular interventions, and biostatistics.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5348 alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/journals.myesr.org\/eur-radiol\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/09\/lacob-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"239\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Roxana Iacob<\/strong> is a PhD student and an assistant professor at Victor Babes University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Timisoara, Romania, and a resident physician in radiology and medical imaging. She is interested in all facets of radiology and medical imaging, with a primary focus on senology, thoracic imaging, and prostate MRIs. She is driven by a deep enthusiasm for advancements in medical imaging and research.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5350\" src=\"https:\/\/journals.myesr.org\/eur-radiol\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/09\/Ilinca-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"242\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Diana-Andreea Ilinca<\/strong> is a medical resident in radiology and a PhD student. She graduated with a degree in general medicine from University of Medicine and Pharmacy Grigore T. Popa from Iasi, Romania. She continued her academic journey with her PhD studies with a scholarship focusing on using advanced imaging in brain lymphoma. Her dedication to neuroradiology is evident in her work, including papers and oral presentations.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5351\" src=\"https:\/\/journals.myesr.org\/eur-radiol\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/09\/Jankovic-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"240\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Sonja Jankovic<\/strong> is a board-certified radiologist working at the Department of Radiology, University Clinical Center Nis. Sonja has a special focus and expertise in neuro- and cardiovascular radiology, especially advanced MR imaging techniques and AI. She is currently an ESCR board member and ESNRise committee member.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5353\" src=\"https:\/\/journals.myesr.org\/eur-radiol\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/09\/Laudazi-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"236\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Mario Laudazi<\/strong> is a fourth-year radiology resident at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, with a passion for AI-driven applications in medicine, actively engaged in imaging research, aiming to redefine the boundaries of quantitative imaging biomarkers and efficiency in radiological practices, all while establishing a good international network thanks to various European fellowship experiences.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5354\" src=\"https:\/\/journals.myesr.org\/eur-radiol\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/09\/Opancina-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"240\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Valentina Opancina<\/strong> is MD, PhD, Assistant Professor, board-certified radiologist, neuroradiology fellow, and Bachelor of Law. She was awarded European Neuroradiology Fellowship for 2022 and Neuroradiology scholarship for 2021 by the European Society of Radiology. She is a holder of the White House and US President&#8217;s Civil Activism Award, and Fulbright award \u201cTrailblazer\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5355\" src=\"https:\/\/journals.myesr.org\/eur-radiol\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/09\/Rahmani-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"237\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>George Rahmani<\/strong> was graduated from the National University of Ireland, Galway and completed his radiology training at Galway University Hospitals, Ireland. He has special interest in interventional radiology, in particular deep venous work.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5356\" src=\"https:\/\/journals.myesr.org\/eur-radiol\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/09\/Ryan-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"240\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>James Ryan<\/strong>, is currently a 2nd-year radiology resident at St. Vincent\u2019s University Hospital, Dublin. He holds the prestigious Prof. Max J. Ryan medal for excellence in the FFRRCSI Fellowship Exam. His commitment to research is evident through 15 peer reviewed publications and 5 case reports.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5357\" src=\"https:\/\/journals.myesr.org\/eur-radiol\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/09\/Sakai-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"238\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Naomi Sakai<\/strong> is an academic clinical lecturer at the Centre for Medical Imaging, University College London and a radiology registrar at University College London Hospital. She is undertaking subspecialty training in gastrointestinal radiology. Her research interest is in abdominal imaging and quantitative MRI of the bowel, liver, and pancreas.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5358\" src=\"https:\/\/journals.myesr.org\/eur-radiol\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/09\/Wu-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"236\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Chenjiang Wu<\/strong> is a radiologist from the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, Nanjing, China. His clinical and research interests are abdominal imaging and CT-guided intervention. He is a reviewer for several well-known radiological journals and an assistant editor of AJR.
